Visuals for SOULSCAPES - an architectural installation by Studio PCHTake a deep breath and settle in for part 1 of some Psychedelic Visuals I created for SOULSCAPES - an architectural concept from @studiopch presented at @ecc_italy at this year’s @venice.architecture.biennale@thomaz.regatos - a designer at @studiopch - reached out to me through mutual friend @theartofchadwick, in need of some visuals to display with an architectural model they were exhibiting. When I heard what the model was for, I immediately signed on. I’ve had a lifelong interest and engagement with the use of psychedelics for improving mental health, as an aid in life transformation, and as a tool for opening one’s worldview. The burgeoning field of psychedelic wellness, while fraught with complication as any emergent field in a capitalistic society can be, has great potential for elevating humankind in countless ways. This installation recognizes and celebrates that these experiences can especially help improve and deepen our relationship with nature, as indigenous cultures all over the world have known for centuries. I’ve extensively studied, read and written about, and made visuals in the psychedelic space for a long time, and frankly, it’s a lot of fun. My personal take on creating visuals that replicate and convey the sense of a psychedelic experience is to start with organically filmed elements, usually images of nature, and then utilize visual effects to transform and enhance the visuals in patterns typical of a hallucinatory experience. I believe a fundamental purpose of these flowing, breathing and changing experiences is to break open our rigid perspectives by loosening our often overly firm grip on reality, allowing for us to envision a new path forward, a new way of being, of relating and engaging with the world.
